The Roborock S7 MaxV comes in three different versions: the basic S7 model and the S7 Plus model and the S7 Ultra. The S7 MaxV Ultra is the only one with an Empty Wash Fillet Dock (or an alternate Auto-Empty Dock). These docks allow the robot to return to its original location and empty the debris in a dust bag, or reservoir, drain the dirty water tank, and wash its mopping pads.
Sensors on the S7 work together to clean and eliminate obstacles. It can recognize floor types and save a map of rooms and zones. It can even detect dirt levels. It can also plan and execute spot cleaning sessions. It performed well in our tests, but it didn't exactly match the Roomba j7+ in our carpet deep clean test.
With the companion app you can program the S7 to run a cleaning cycle in accordance with your schedule. You can choose a cleaning mode that is automatic or eco, and a weekday, day or time. You can also choose whether the robot will cease operation if its power runs out or in the event of an obstacle.
If you don't own an iPhone, you can still use the S7 by connecting a remote to the charging dock. The controls are confusing at first however they are very effective once you've mastered them. The power button doubles as the general 'Clean' function and the 'Spot Clean' button directs the robot to clean a small area around itself. The "Spot Clean" button triggers the child lock.
In addition to the new mapping features, Roborock improved its mobile application, including live view that lets you check out what the S7 is doing at home. You can enable this feature by pressing a specific sequence of buttons on the S7 and creating an unlock pattern in the app to use any time you wish to check out what the robot is doing.
3. Shark IQ Large
Shark's robot vacuums aren't as popular as those made by iRobot or Roborock. However, our tests on the ground have proven that this model is one of the most efficient self-emptying vacuums on the market. It's simple to set up and has an enormous bin that is able to be easily empty (albeit loudly) into a trashcan once it's full. It can also be programmed to clean your entire house on a schedule.
The IQ XL can connect to your home WiFi that allows you to monitor it from the Shark app and check its battery level as it cleans. There's not much to dislike about the Shark IQ XL, although it feels a bit less well-built than the Roomba 694. It removes many messes on bare floors and does a decent job of maneuvering itself, but it doesn't come close to matching the iRobot Roomba i7 in regards to performance on carpeted surfaces. The i7 is also built better and feels more durable and robust, has less demanding maintenance requirements, has lower recurring costs, is faster to charge, and offers comparable battery performance and much more advanced automation features, such as no-go zones and the capability to choose specific rooms for a clean.
iRobot J7+
This robot mop/vac combo is a rare beast, because it can do both tasks very well. iRobot Combo j7+ has all the smarts and features similar to its j7 counterpart including LiDAR map and self-emptying. It also comes with additional features for vacuuming and mopping.
The new acoustic sensors aid the j7+ identify floor types, so it can choose between mopping and vacuuming when it first enters an area. It also utilizes this information to prioritize cleaning rooms with carpets and rug flooring over rooms with hard floors.
The j7+ is quieter than the majority of robotic vacuums when it's running, and even quieter when it's mopping. The maximum reading of 64 decibels on our decibel meter is similar to office chatter.
